Polish Premiere: "Little Voices"

"Little Voices"/"Nieme Głosy" by Jairo Eduardo Carillo and Oscar Andrade is an exceptional cartoon documentary whose creation took almost 10 years. Eventually, a real masterpiece, compared to "Waltz with Bashir", was created.

The uniqueness of this film is not only based on its outstanding animation but most of all on the fact that children play the major role there. They are the real victims of a 40-year war in Colombia. "Little Voices" were realised on the basis of the interviews with with children aged from 8 to 13 who were forced to flee their homes with their families, who grew up in a chaotic and violent environment in Colombia. The entire film was illustraded on the basis of the authentic children's drawings.

The film is mastered in every detail. It is visible in assiduous animation as well as in a detailed construction of each image. The very animation is composed of a combination of children's drawings depicting their own experiences and heroes representing them. Thus, it gives an impression that children function in the world created for them and by them. The experiences of major heroes laregely differ. The film depicts the histories of four people from four different perspectives. These moving histories present the traumatic outcome of war and displacements in Colombia.

The most amazing aspect of the film is the attitude of children who despite the trauma, try not to feel resentful or embittered. Their optimism and ability of looking at the world are infectious and the beauty of a film and its message will stay with us long after watching it.
